Nature showing us how growth happens

Just a little thing I noticed this week…

We have a hedge outside our flat, one of those tidy privet ones which was trimmed recently. It is pretty much all the same height now. However, already, a few little shoots have started poking up above the rest. Quietly getting on with it.

Then I looked at the snake plants on our window ledges. We have twelve of them (yes, really), and the same thing. On two of them, a leaf has suddenly taken off. Much taller than the rest. Not planned, not pushed, it has just happened.

It got me thinking about how growth happens. We often focus on fitting in, keeping pace, staying in line. But sometimes, without trying, something in us stretches upwards. Maybe we’ve had a bit more light, maybe we’re just ready. And something grows.

Through our yoga and meditation practices, we are not aiming to stand out. We are learning to be present. However, that presence sometimes allows something new to rise. A thought, a feeling, a change. Something starts to shift or open. And it can feel quiet, but really meaningful.

So maybe this week, have a look:

Is there a part of me that’s quietly growing?
Can I allow it, without rushing it?
What might happen if I gave it a bit more space?

Hope you’re keeping well, and as always, you are always welcome in class, online or in person, whether you’re feeling like the trimmed hedge or the tall shoot this week.
