THE LOCAL AREA
Set between sea and desert, Almería is a land of sun, silence, and stark natural beauty—ideal for soul-deep restoration. Just inland from the sparkling Costa de Almería, near the artisanal village of Níjar, this retreat unfolds in a landscape of cacti, whitewashed homes, and breathtaking desert vistas shaped by wind and time.
Almería is home to Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, Spain’s largest coastal reserve, where volcanic cliffs meet secret beaches—perfect for meditative sunrise walks or salt-air breathing exercises. This region has enchanted artists and directors for decades; films like Lawrence of Arabia, Indiana Jones and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly were filmed here. A new discovery in the region is the amazing Pulpi Geode, the world’s largest natural crystal cave, now open to the public and less than an hour from the venue.
Níjar is renowned for its pottery, textiles, and Moorish heritage, evident in its winding streets and handwoven rugs. The area’s cuisine is a celebration of simplicity—gazpacho, grilled sardines, and the freshest olive oils and almonds, paired beautifully with local vino de la tierra.
Nearby Almería city was once a thriving Moorish port, home to the Alcazaba, a 10th-century fortress larger than the Alhambra. Past and present merge in this mystical setting, where the earth’s rawness encourages introspection and renewal.
Come & connect to elemental power—sun, sand, sea, and stillness. This retreat promises clarity, creative flow, and a profound return to self.
THE FOOD
Meals are vegetarian/vegan, with fresh local produce, and include breakfast, lunch and dinner. The meals are healthy and varied, with plenty of choice. Dining is usually al fresco on a shaded terrace beneath the vines. They can cater for gluten and dairy free diets .
GETTING THERE
Flights and transfers are not included in the price of the trip so that you have flexibility to extend your stay, and decide upon your own flights.
The nearest airport is Almeria. I am planning to fly into Almeria airport, a 35 minute transfer from the Finca. in 2025 flights into Almeria are available from Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, Southend and Gatwick.
Malaga airport, about 3.5 hours away from the venue by bus, is serviced by multiple flights a day and there is a coach direct from Malaga to Almeria a number of times a day (Spanish intercity coaches are super efficient and comfortable - I know from recent experience). Check out alsa.com for one bus option.
It is possible to book a one-way flight to Malaga with Easyjet and return from Almeria to avoid their very early Almeria departure from Gatwick.
There is also a direct train from Granada to Almeria ( approx 3hrs) so you can fly into Granada or go on a day trip there if you wish!
I will endeavour to optimise the number of people in each transfer vehicle to minimise the costs.
CHECK IN / CHECK OUT TIMES
Check in time from 3pm - If flights arrive early you are welcome to arrive at the finca where you can relax and wait for the housekeeping jobs to be completed. Water, teas, coffee and fruit will be available and you could walk to Nijar for lunch if you wanted. Check out time is 10am. If your flight departs late, it is possible to arrange to leave the finca later with an option to walk to Nijar for lunch or maybe spend the day in Almeria
